What is Spyware?
In general, spyware is a software that secretly gathering personal information from the user's computer without their knowledge. The spyware can usually run in the background gathering information about anything you do on your computer and then uploading that information back to internet server.
The ways that spyware gets into your computer can be the result of installing a new program, usually bundled within "freeware" or "shareware". This way, the developers will get paid from selling gathered information as marketing information to interested parties. Therefoe, you don't have to pay for the software. Another common way for spyware to get into your computer is as a software virus.

The problem with Spyware:
Obviously, your own privacy is a major problem caused by spyware. While according to many well known or big spyware companies, the information gathered will be not sensitive or identifying date. So there are no such information like credit card information been gathered. The information been gathered will be like your surfing habits, spending habits and other non-sensitive information's that is useful for marketing. But that's what big spyware companies are doing, we never know what type of information been secretly gathered by illegal companies or by individual like a 12 years old kid.
Other problem is that spyware will continuously send data back to their internet server using your internet connection, this may slow down your connection if there are too many
spywares in your computer. Also there maybe some poorly written spyware that contains bugs and causes your computer to lock up or malfunction.

What is Adware?
Adware is any software application displaying or advertising banners while the program is running. Some Adware are used in pop-up windows to display their banner advertising. Occasionally, some Adware will also act as spyware which includes information gathering code to send non-sensitive informations back to third parties. Some people think that Adware are same as spyware, but Adware isn't necessarily spyware. Although they are both using the same way to get into your computer.
The problem with Adware:
Major concerns of Adware are their annoying window pop-ups and also changing of display advertising banners so often to caused the slow down for dial-up connection users.
